Environmental Performance

Significant aspects - how we interact with the environment and how we manage the impacts.

As a starting point, it was necessary for us to ascertain what effect our activities have on the environment, both locally and globally, before tackling them.  Aspect registers were produced for each Operating Business Unit identifying interactions with the environment and the subsequent impacts, both positive and negative.  These highlighted our priorities as being waste management and minimisation, subcontractor management, pollution prevention, nuisance, wildlife, energy use.

With this information, we were able to develop our environmental management system - policy, procedures and environmental plans, to focus on these aspects and concentrate on producing the most significant environmental improvements.

Objectives and Targets

In order to implement continual environmental improvement at each level of the system, each year the Business Units sets demanding and smart objectives and targets.

These objectives and targets are reviewed on a periodic basis and the progress monitored.

We are continuing to develop more specific objectives and targets aimed at reducing the impact caused by our most significant environmental aspects.

Progress, Measurements and Reporting

We measure our performance through regular environmental inspections and audits and monitor this information against the objectives and targets, performance indicators and industry benchmarks.  The performance, successes and failures will be reported to our shareholders and other interested parties annually
